    Chantier Construction Site, AgwA

    AgwA shows work in progress: execution as a verb. A collection of collected images. Without a necessary order or sequence. Enlarged and then zoomed in again. But moments that had to be visualised at that time. Perhaps merely to serve as witness. Perhaps ultimately as an unencumbered catalogue of which only this or that will really be understood later on. Or will even be used. AgwA makes work of work in progress: exe¬cution as a context. That all of those images are collected is not odd. Not odd in and of itself. As situated: the importance of the building site. But also not strange for AgwA itself. The work itself of AgwA. Increasingly the work situates the idea of what a building truly is. How it is made.     AgwA is a Brussels based architecture office. The projects of AgwA architects focus mainly on public infrastructures and buildings for collectivities in Belgium. Amongst these, reconversion projects in complex urban contexts are predominant. In these loaded surroundings, AgwA aims at clear spatial cuts which can be built in a very straightforward way. To achieve this, the internal resources of architecture are fundamental. Structures, construction materials, ample spatial systems and a precise contextual positioning are at the heart of their design strategies. Their architecture is simultaneously ordinary and exceptional.

    Zarba Lonsa, _0_0__0, Mesonya/, Katinka Bock

    This publication forms the catalogue of three solo-exhibitions of artist Katinka Bock in Paris, London and Toronto that were linked to the work ‘Zarba Lonsa’ which she created during her residency at Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers in Paris in 2016.

    Particularly interested by the atmosphere of the Quatre-Chemins district where Les Laboratories is located, the artist went to meet merchants to initiate a relationship with them based on the exchange of one of her works for an object of their shop.

    This gesture was the starting point of a creative process that has unfolded in several forms – sculptures, installation, films and photos. Renewing the process of this exchange-based relationship in a specific urban context for a new production of works and photographs, a second edition of the project took shape under the title _0_0__0 in June 2017 at Mercer Union in Toronto. To complete the series, a last edition took place at the Siobhan Davies Dance in London under the title Mesonya/ in Fall 2017.

    Alchimia Nova, AnneMarie Maes

    Maes is a multi-media artist who has been studying the tight interactions and co-evolutions within urban ecosystems. In the open-air lab on the rooftop of her studio, she created an experimental garden and has been keeping bees in self-designed beehives, equipped to bring out hidden structures in the life of the colony. Her “field notes” provide an on-going source of inspiration for her artworks. The Bee Laboratory, as well as her late experiments with “living” textiles, open a framework that has been initiating a wide range of installations, photography works, sculptures, workshops and books. It is a long-term project on the edge of art, science and technology.

    Coin perdu, Sofie Van der Linden

    In the late 19th century, Emile Van Doren painted the Genk landscape from his artist villa Coin Perdu. Artists from home and abroad visited there to put their impressions of the then desolate Campine landscape on canvas. In the early 20th century,
the environment changes abruptly. Three mines, three districts, three churches, three shopping streets. A large town hall is built in the old village centre, worthy of a city. Major roads connect the new mining sites.
Now that mining has disappeared, fragmented remnants of built urbanity are all that remains. The roads are too large,
the neighbourhoods have grown tired and the old town hall seems misplaced. The irregularities in the landscape come to the fore and give the city an unusual character. Like the landscape painters of the 1900s, Sofie Van der Linden (°Turnhout, 1986) draws the surroundings of Genk in Coin Perdu.
The publication Coin Perdu was set up as a road atlas. A series of ten drawings were printed life-size, folded and cut. The drawings were realized during a work residency at FLACC in Genk.
Cornel Bierens wrote a text to accompany the drawings by
Sofie Van der Linden.

    Fragile City

    Fragile City looks at the contemporary condition of 5 cities today through the historic model of The Voyage d'Orient undertaken in 1911 by August Klipstein and Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (the future Le Corbusier). 

    Fragile City joins together unpublished photographs from the 1911 journey with Bergé’s photographs from 2011, as well as essays by Tülay Atak and Elke Krasny. Fragile City is a visual, critical and historical reflection on contemporary urbanization.

    Urban Cave Drawings, Carl Uytterhaegen

    From the cave of Altamira to the famous Werregarenstraatje in Ghent, Belgium, man has sought to fix the fluidity of his nature in pictures, on rocks, trees, concrete & brick walls, permanent & solid; an unfailing trace criss-crossing the globe drawing desire, love and live, on which Carl Uytterhaegen has set his camera and has left us a first report.

    Eurasian Academical Tour 2017-2018 for the Mobile Medium University, Luc Deleu

    Luc Deleu is a Belgian conceptual architect, urbanist and artist. He studied and teaches at the Higher Architectural Institute Sint-Lucas, Brussels. Together with Laurette Gillemot he created T.O.P. Office (Turn on Planning) in 1970, a studio for urbanism and architecture, which won the 2014 Flemish Culture Prize for Visual Arts. He launched numerous proposals to rethink the use of space throughout the globe, and reflects on the occupation by man of the earth's surface. Deleu's thoughts are manifested in his anarchistic-utopian models. He filters his thoughts in drawings and models, which propagate his fresh vision on a reorganisation of an overcrowded world.

    This artist edition is an imaginary voyage for the project Mobile Medium University (from 1972 on three recycled aircraft-carriers), which is planned for October 1st 2017 until June 30th 2018.

    From the Cutting-Floor of the Public Poem, Alain Arias-Misson

    Alain Arias-Misson created the "Public Poem" 45 years ago in Brussels and Madrid when he decided "to write on the street like a page". From the Cutting-Floor of the Public Poem gives a graphic account of this always disruptive urban poet - from the Place St.-Germain in Paris to the Sixtine Chapel in the Vatican and Madison Square Garden in New York City.
